The 2020 "To-to-To-no-Hi" - Tokoname Ceramics & Lights Day has been cancelled.

Grateful for the Past, Hopeful for the Future

A picturesque festival of ceramic lanterns and light takes place on the grounds of the INAX MUSEUMS and elsewhere in this historic pottery town. In the evening, visitors gather in the cool autumn air to walk among the countless shining lanterns.

In the city of Tokoname, October 10th is "To-to-To-no-Hi." Written "陶と灯の日" in kanji, it means “Ceramics and Lights Day,” and on this day several events are held throughout the city in order to celebrate the life and achievements of Chozaburo Ina, the entrepreneur who founded the INAX Company (recently renamed LIXIL). He was also the first mayor of the city of Tokoname when it became a municipality in 1954.

To-to-To-no-Hi

During his life, Chozabura Ina greatly contributed towards the preservation and improvement of the ancient pottery techniques of the region, as well as the development of its industry. Besides the contributions by his own company, generating thousands of employment posts, he donated large sums of money that were used to build facilities nowadays considered essential to the economic and cultural aspects of the city, such as the Tokoname Tounomori, which is composed of the Museum, the Ceramics Lab and the Training Studio.

Delve deeper into the history of pottery and shop for unique goods at various event venues including the INAX MUSEUMS, the Meitetsu Tokoname Station Rotary, and the Tokoname Tounomori, among others.
