A Fireworks Festival That Boasts One of the Biggest Shells Out of All the Pacific Rim Countries!

Held over a period of two days, the Gamagori Festival is a city-wide event that starts on Saturday with lots of stage shows, live performances, dances, and food booths carried out at several places around Gamagori Station. Spend an entire day at Gamagori Festival or take a little side trip to enjoy some nearby sightseeing!

The multiple events continue throughout the day on Sunday, and at night the climax of the festival comes with the Gamagori Noryo Fireworks Festival. The word "noryo" means "refreshing after the heat," which is fitting for the twilight time when the fireworks start.

This display of fire flowers is special because it boasts the largest explosive round in the entire Pacific Rim, an astounding 90 cm-diameter shell weighing around 200 kg, shot from a special mortar installed on a barge floating nearby in the coast which creates a huge shining star over 650 meters of diameter. Usually, three of those impressive rounds are shot at the peak of the event, and the tens of thousands of awed spectators instantly know when they are launched from the sheer shock wave impact of both cannon and round explosions. The flash lights up the whole Gamagori coast and its famous landmark, Takeshima Island, and together with the background music adds to the show's unforgettable magnificence.
