Chiiwa originated from limestone comprised of volcanic tuff that dissolved and formed mamillary stalactites on a cavern ceiling.
A large number of Buddhist statues of Kannon are enshrined inside the Chiiwa cavern, in addition to an impressive natural stone gate known as Tsutendo.
The superb scenery weaves together the beauty of the gorge and the unusually shaped rocks, stirring up deep emotions in visitors.
