Founded in 1336, Jokoji Temple is an ancient temple of the Myoshin-ji branch of Rinzai Zen and a famous place for autumn leaves. Within the temple grounds are two cultural properties: Muiden (the main temple building) and the place where the ancestor of famous warlord Tokugawa Ieyasu and founder of the Owari Domain, Tokugawa Yoshinao (Genkei), is enshrined. The magnificent contrast between the deep crimson leaves and the historical buildings is also a must-see.
Located in the neighborhood of Jokoji Park, you can combine their visit with an autumn walk.

Iwayado Park & Jokoji Temple - Autumn Leaves Festival

Famous as a place for cherry blossoms and autumn leaves, Jokoji is widely believed to play the role of the Owari region’s Kimon, or “Demon Gate.” It is said that if you worship here your misfortune will immediately disappear and you will be blessed with plenty of good luck.
