Date : 11/19/2022, 11/20/2022
The annual thanksgiving festival of famous Toyokawa Inari, with plenty to see and do. The first day is marked by intense prayer for the safety of the country and abundant harvest, and the "Omikoshi" procession of transference that takes the Kami god to the temple.
On the second day, there is a procession of "Chigo" kindergarten kids wearing traditional ceremonial garments, with music and a great troupe accompanying the god back to its original enshrined location. Then, great Ojochin giant lanterns are lifted and lit up. Additional lanterns lit by the general populace hang on a large wheel that's afterwards lifted high in the air by ropes. The sight of this wheel, the "Hanaguruma," is a fantastic one.
Also see performances of Taishogoto (Nagoya harp) and Taiko Japanese drums. Coinciding with the festival, merchants display their goods at the Inari Rakuichi Street Market, located along the shopping street in front of the main gate to Toyokawa Inari. Items for sale include souvenirs, craft, and gourmet delicacies, while "Chindon-ya" Parading Clown Bands walk around animating the venue.
