Nagoya-City The Tokugawa Art Museum Special Exhibit - National Treasure The Tale of Genji Scrolls
Date : 11/18/2017 - 11/26/2017
The annual Special Exhibition by The Tokugawa Art Museum displaying National Treasure The Tale of Genji Scrolls. An utterly rare opportunity to witness the most influential illustrated masterpiece from ancient Japan. Believed to have been made sometime in the early years of the 12th century, pages of the Genji Monogatari Emaki that were originally part of the Owari-Tokugawa Clan hoard are exhibited for a brief period of time, and only two or three of them at a time. This is done in order to better preserve the fragile paintings.
This time the exhibit will feature "Kashiwagi (2nd)" and "Azuma-ya (2nd)".
The next exhibition of all the pages owned by The Tokugawa Art Museum at once is scheduled for the year 2025.
