Toyokawa-City Akasaka-Juku Maple Leaves Festival
(Akasaka-Juku Momiji Matsuri)
Date : 11/27/2022
Akasaka-Juku's annual Maple Leaves Festival is held on a Sunday on late November near Mt. Miyaji (宮路山 Miyajisan). This is a great chance to appreciate the famous “Koaburatsutsuji” shrubs (Enkhiantus nudipes - Ericaceae), growing on the mountain and tinted in marvelous autumn colors. The hiking path is well-maintained and virtually free of dangers, and does not require much physical effort. Other interesting events are held too, but the main attraction is certainly the view from Mt. Miyaji's peak: it is possible to view all the surrounding area, including Mikawa Bay, Toyohashi Port, downtown Toyokawa and Toyohashi cities and, with some luck, even Mt. Fuji in the distance!
Events center around Ohashiya, a former Hatago inn which was renewed in April 2019, as well as Tokaido Akasaka-juku and Goyu-shuku. Sale of delicious local foods, a walking stamp rally, and other events are also part of the festivities.
