The Toyokawa Citizen's Festival "Oiden-sai" is a large event that stops the city Toyokawa for two days every year in late May. Besides being a local fair for companies and farmers to show their services and products, the festival has countless attractions and events around the several venues spread around the city. However, the main attraction are the three Yosakoi Dance Events that take place during the festival, which makes the Oiden-sai to become widely regarded as one of the major dancing festivals in Japan. Teams of dancers take to the several stages and the crowds of spectators, unable to resist the rhythm and dynamism, just simply join in and before you realize it everybody is dancing!

The Oiden-sai Festival is the merging of three traditional festivals that once were annually held in Toyokawa: Commerce Festival, Agriculture Festival and Greening Festival. A fact that largely explains the utter magnitude of the event: in 2015, an estimated 100,000 people, among dancers and audiences took part or the event. For this year’s, about 1,800 dancers from all over Japan, divided in approx. 50 teams, are expected to energize the crowds with their moves.
