A Fascinating Building to Celebrate Niimi Nankichi

This museum was built in honor of Nankichi Niimi, a native of Handa-City and the highly acclaimed author of "Gon, the Little Fox", "Buying Mittens" and other famous children's tales, which led him to be widely regarded as "the Hans Christian Andersen of Japan." Having lost his mother when he was only 4 years old, upon turning 8 in 1921 his maternal grandmother took him and they lived in a house that previously occupied the land where this museum currently sits.

The main hall of the building contains permanent exhibits, book displays, dioramas and models of both the places and the characters from the tales. There's also a wide range of personal belongings such as wardrobe pieces, original manuscripts, diaries and more, all once used by Nankichi himself.
Upon arriving at this memorial, one of the most striking features is the shape of the structure itself, with its wavy patterns and roof covered in grass. Curious as is seems, the architecture was chosen for harmoniously blending with both the landscape and nature of Chita Peninsula, something that Nankichi drew on in one of his works.
Outside, the "Fairy Tales Grove" adjacent to the main structure features a paved stroll path that offers relaxing walks. Some more attentive observers may note that this place resembles the castle ruins of Mr. Nakayama, featured in "Gon, the Little Fox".
