  • Honen Festival (Oagata Jinja Shrine)

Oagata Shrine is famous for its monuments shaped after parts of the female body, particularly genitals. Come March, and the shrine celebrates the Honen Festival, a kind of "Fertility Festival" carried out in pray for abundant harvest, among other supplications. Gorgeous parades, amazing rituals and many sorts of festival food are among the event's attractions. The festival coincides with the "Shidare-ume" Weeping Plum Blossoms of the orchard located behind the shrine, a magnificent view in the season that earned the festival its alias of "Spring-Bringer Event of Owari"!
