Leading up to the Hina Festival on Mar 3, the Ningyo Komichi, or Doll Alley, offers up a variety of hina dolls from the Edo and Meiji periods to the Showa period for display as well as exhibits of hina dolls in comical situations. On weekends during the event period, 15 young children selected through a drawing dress up in attire from ancient Japanese court life and parade through the town. Nearby households too take on the hina doll spirit and set up displays along the street, with swinging hina dolls merrily swaying back and forth. This performance is something you'll find nowhere else than in Takahama City, the location of famous Japanese doll maker Yoshihama Dolls.

Children's Hina Parade

Young children put on the traditional garb of hina dolls in this widely popular event each year. Fifteen take up the roles of the emperor and empress, court ladies, musicians, ministers, and servants, popping out from their decorative placing on the traditional stepped display stand to walk along the streets.

Notes:
• Roles are decided based on height and gender.
• The emperor and empress are selected from participants from the previous year and are not available for application.
• Siblings must apply separately.

Dates: Sat, Feb 24 and Sat, Mar 2 (postponed to Sun, Feb 25 and Sun, Mar 3 should rainy weather occur)
Time: 10:00 am–11:00 pm
Application: Must be postmarked for Feb 20 (selected by drawing if a large number of applicants)
