Date : | Sun, Nov 1–Sun, Dec 1 |
The vivid colors of autumn invite you to take in a warm moment
Mt. Horaiji is known as a top place to enjoy splendid autumn leaves and as an area inhabited by Aichi's prefectural bird: the oriental scops owl. The mountain itself is famous around Japan for its beauty and is designated a natural monument with its mountainscapes offering an intimate look into Japanese nature.
It is also known as a spiritual mountain with the old temple of Horaiji Temple established halfway up around 1,300 years ago. A lengthy 1,425-stone-stair pathway leads to the temple from the foot of the mountain and is home to an 800-year-old, 60-meter-tall cedar tree resembling an umbrella, which is one of the current tallest such tree in Japan. Upon ascending the almost innumerable steps, you come to a clearing with a view of the Okumikawa region's abundant and healing nature.
The temple's Niomon Gate was erected by Japan's famous shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu in 1651 and is designated an national important cultural property.
Prefectural Route 32 is currently closed off due to a landslide around the Shinshiro City Fire Station’s Horai Location. Head down Prefectural Route 524 from the direction of Yuya Hot Spring or use Prefectural Road 436 from the direction of Kuroze when coming out to Mt. Horaiji. For the same reason, the local route bus’s Taguhchi–Shinshiro Line is operating on a detour route and does not stop at Horaiji Bus Stop.
Please keep this in mind and that there is still no foreseeable plan for the road to open back up. The Mt. Horaiji Mokkuru S Bus’s Shinshiro Line, however, is operating normally, allowing passengers to take the bus to the Mt. Horaiji Sancho Bus Stop.
