A historic float parade you'll never forget

The city of Handa's Kamezaki area, located at the northeast of Aichi Prefecture's Chita Peninsula and facing beautiful Kinu'ura Port, holds a stunning festival every May 3 and 4 with a history said to span more than three centuries. The festival worships the ancient, perhaps mythical, Emperor Jimmu. The festival reenacts the legend of how he came to shore here from the sea by rolling five gigantic parade floats along the beach during the low tide, earning the festival the name of the "Shiohi", or "Low Tide", Festival.
Gorgeously embroidered curtains and elaborate carvings decorate the ornate floats and the men pulling the gargantuan floats do so with the utmost grace and passion despite their massive sizes. Watch the floats make their way to the sounds of traditional Japanese musical accompaniment and the men's passionate shouts in the majesty that only be witnessed in one of Japan's most exciting float festivals.
