Handa-City 8th Handa Floats Festival (Dai-Hachi-Kai Handa Dashi Matsuri)

Date : 10/28/2023, 10/29/2023

  • 8th Handa Floats Festival (Dai-Hachi-Kai Handa Dashi Matsuri)

A rare opportunity to witness the combined majesty of the floats of Handa City!

Just once every five years, all the 31 Dashi Floats of Handa-City are taken from storage once more in October for one more event: the sumptuous Handa Floats Festival. Famous enough due to the Handa Spring Floats Festival, when they are the center of each district's festivities, the floats are used in the processions and rituals. Particularly, the float rituals at the Kamezaki District even made to UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage List for Humanity in 2016. At the Handa Floats Festival, all 31 of them are gathered at once in an awesome display of beauty and tradition.

The 8th edition is in 2017!

This festival was idealized rather recently, with its first edition held in 1979. It's been held every five years since that time, with the number of visitors growing each time. In 2012, the event saw an attendance of over a half million people!
