Toyota-City Mennoki Soft Rime Virgin Forest
(Mennoki Genseirin-no-Juhyo)
Date : | From mid-December to early February |
The Mennoki Reserve is a Designated Special Protection Area located in eastern Inabu-cho district, extreme east of Toyota-City. There, a native forest of Japanese Beeches said to be in excess of 300 years old surrounds Mount Iyama and in the coldest days of winter, become covered in soft rime, creating a fantastic sight. Atop Mt. Iyama, accessible by paved road, lies an observatory from which, on clear weather days, it is possible to spot Mt. Fuji in the distance peeking out above the other nearby ranges. Mennoki Reserve is part of the larger Tenryu-Okumikawa Quasi-National Park, an extensive natural reserve nested deep back within the mountains, encompassing areas in Aichi, Gifu and Shizuoka prefectures. A place of many natural wonders!
