Okumikawa area's paradise on Earth

Every year the plum tree groves in the Kaore area of Shinshiro City reach full bloom from early to mid-March.
Eleven farming families grow around 1,500 plums of seven different varieties, including Nanko. Scattered farmhouses surrounded by plum trees and blossoms in full bloom along the mountain slopes—the scene is truly like a modern-day paradise. In March, a farmers market selling agricultural products is set up and the Plum Blossom Festival is held.
