Toyota-City Korankei Gorge
One of the Most Famous Places in Aichi Prefecture for Autumn Leaves,
With Lovely Wild Flowers All Year Round!
Korankei Gorge is full of color in each season. As the leaves take on their autumnal hues, the surface of the Tomoe River is dappled beautifully with the red and yellow of about 4,000 trees. From November 1 to 30, the "Korankei Momiji Festival" is held along with various other events. The trees are lit up from sunset to 9:00 PM, when they take on a magical ambience quite different from the day time.
Korankei is known not only as a place for autumn leaves, but also as a treasure trove of wild flowers and grasses. In particular, from late March to early April you can see katakuri flowers in full bloom, covering the mountainside in a beautiful pale purple carpet. Part of a group of flowers known as "spring ephemerals," large numbers of people visit Korankei every year to see the dainty wild flowers at their best.
