The Biggest Ceramics, Pottery & Porcelain Street Market Event in Japan - With Fireworks!

The Setomono Festival, held since 1932, sees the local pottery industry celebrating the legacy of Kato Tamikichi, hailed as “Father of Seto Pottery,”and who studied this art in Kyushu during the Edo period and brought it to the Seto region. Numerous events take place over the festival’s two days, and among them is Japan’s biggest "Seto Pottery Bargain Market," where prices are way lower than usual, drawing in several hundred thousand people from all over the country.

Over 200 merchants line the street along the margins of the Setogawa River, and besides the staggering variety of earthenware and china available, visitors will be able to experience crafts and techniques by seeing, shopping or having hands-on sessions. And on the first day of the event, a fireworks display is expected to take place, adding to the attractiveness of this massive festival!
