• Obon-Odori Summer Dance

• 10 Years of Restoration - The Grand Masterpiece of All Castle Reconstructions "Hommaru Goten" Now Open

Originally built in 1615 by the first Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu, the Nagoya Castle Hommaru Palace was the residence and formal audience hall for his son, the Lord of the Owari Domain. Nagoya’s palace was regarded as a masterpiece, the finest example of Samurai-styled Shoin-zukuri castle architecture, and became the first castle to be designated a National Treasure. It was the most elegant and gorgeous palace of all, richly decorated with gold covered walls and stunning paintings by the famed Kano School, the finest artists of the day. Destroyed by fire during WWII, it was faithfully reconstructed by traditional craftsmen and artisans using detailed records and authentic materials. Do not miss the breathtaking beauty of the Hommaru palace.

During the Nagoya Castle Summer Festival period, Hommaru Goten will be exceptionally illuminated at evenings, providing an excellent opportunity to take hard-to-come-by pictures of equally illuminated Tenshu Tower and Hommaru Goten Palace.

• All three Important Cultural Assets "Sumiyagura" Simultaneous Opening

During the Nagoya Castle Summer Festival period, the three Sumiyagura corner towers remaining from the Edo Period (Nansei Southeastern, Seinan Southwestern, and Seihoku Northwestern) will be exceptionally open for the public. As they are normally closed and no visitors are allowed, don't miss this chance to know them from inside!

Cosplay Bon Dance at Nagoya Castle! Both days on August 4th (Saturday) and 5th (Sunday), Nagoya Castle will be the satellite venue for the World Cosplay Summit 2018. In the adjacent Dolphins Arena (Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium), representative cosplayers from 36 countries who have won the preliminaries in various parts of the world gather together to decide the World Champion. In addition, various photoshoots will be made possible at Nagoya Castle's best locations.
