A One-Day Only Hana Festival at Kobayashi-Suwa Shrine

Of the three variations of Hana Festival, the one at Kobayashi District is the only one of the "Okochi" variation, with a remarkably fast pace compared to other styles.

Common Procedures at the Hana Festival

-Guests will do well in bringing an offering in currency (between 2,000 to 3,000 yen per guest is the average offering). Offering is made at the reception window inside the festival hall.
-Upon receiving the Welcome Ticket, guests are kindly asked to try and take the complimentary meal as soon as possible.
-The "masu" wooden box is used to drink the complimentary sake. At Kobayashi, the masu is engraved with charming inscriptions of the place and the festival. Using it adds to the experience! However, guests are kindly asked to appreciate with moderation in order to avoid embarrassing situations. Also, do not drink and drive as it is a grave felony in Japan.
-The complimentary sushi rolls are for later in case guests get hungry. However, visitors that feel it will not be enough are encouraged to bring additional food as the small tent selling local snacks is not prepared to receive great numbers of guests. Also, the shop closes early at about 7:00 PM.
-Avoid wearing your best clothes as Hana Festivals have plenty of water and miso soy paste spilling, not to mention careless, slightly inebriated guests dropping things. Shoes also should be comfortable for rugged terrain.
-Strolling around the premises and the village is welcome, but guests should avoid entering the woods as it is quite easy to get lost.
-Despite the name "festival," it is a religious event, so guests are kindly asked to avoid speaking loudly and, needless to say, screaming or playing music.
