A Traditional Festival With Beautiful Yamahoko Parade Floats and Karakuri Mechanized Puppets
The karakuri puppet dolls riding on top of yamahoko parade floats are a well-known feature of the Tahara Festival, which began in the Edo period.
Three yamahoko floats and elegantly decorated mikoshi shrine floats go on parade, while at night children seated atop the yamahoko floats wave to the crowd.
Five Towns Fireworks mark the grand finale. Featuring tezutsu hand-held cannons and big ozutsu cannons, and ending with a great display of airborne rounds, this amazing fireworks festival is the largest in Atsumi Peninsula.
The best places to watch it are the Central Park along the Shio River (Shiokawa) or at the tezutsu demonstration venue, Hananoki Square.
